SkinPen, Virtue RF and PRP/PRF are not interchangeable treatments. SkinPen creates controlled mechanical microchannels, Virtue RF combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, and PRP/PRF uses components prepared from your own blood as part of a clinician-led regenerative plan. The best option depends on your skin concern, medical history, tolerance for downtime and the depth of treatment required.
At SOLAÉ Aesthetics by Smile Avenue in Umm Suqeim, every plan begins with consultation and skin assessment. This comparison is designed to help you ask informed questions, not to diagnose your skin online.

What is SkinPen microneedling?
SkinPen Precision Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries at selected depths. The purpose is to stimulate a natural repair response and collagen remodelling. It may be discussed for uneven texture, the appearance of certain acne scars and general skin quality.
Because settings should reflect treatment area, scar type, skin condition and comfort, deeper is not automatically better. A course may be recommended, with time between sessions for healing.
What is Virtue RF microneedling?
Virtue RF delivers radiofrequency energy through microneedles at planned depths. This adds controlled thermal energy to the mechanical action of microneedling. It may be considered when firmness, texture or contour support is part of the treatment goal.
Settings are personalised according to skin, treatment area, comfort and desired depth. Integrated comfort features can support the experience, but redness, swelling or temporary sensitivity may still occur.
What are PRP, PRF and BioFiller?
PRP and PRF are prepared from a sample of the patient’s own blood. Centrifugation separates components used by trained clinicians for selected regenerative applications. Preparation protocols and evidence vary by indication, so consultation should clarify what is being used, why it is recommended and what alternatives exist.
BioFiller prepared from your own blood may also be discussed for selected facial indications. It is not the same as a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, and expected behaviour, evidence, duration and limitations should be explained clearly.
Which treatment fits which concern?
Acne marks and uneven texture
SkinPen may be suitable for selected atrophic acne scars and texture concerns. Virtue RF may be considered when radiofrequency energy could add value. Active acne, infection or inflammatory skin disease should be assessed before either procedure.
Firmness and collagen support
Virtue RF is often the more technology-intensive option because it combines needling and controlled energy. Results develop progressively and vary. It is not a substitute for surgery where significant laxity is present.
Regenerative or hair-focused plans
PRP or PRF may be considered as part of a clinician-led protocol for selected skin or scalp goals. Diagnosis matters, particularly for hair loss, where nutritional, hormonal, genetic or medical factors may require investigation.
Sensitive skin or pigmentation tendency
Energy, depth, skin tone, recent sun exposure and pigmentation history influence risk. A conservative plan, pre-treatment preparation or a different treatment may be advised.
Recovery and aftercare
Recovery differs by intensity and combination. Temporary redness, swelling, tightness, pinpoint bleeding, dryness or sensitivity can occur after microneedling. PRP/PRF procedures can also cause tenderness, bruising or swelling at collection and treatment sites.
- Use only the cleanser, moisturiser and sun protection recommended by your clinician
- Avoid picking, exfoliating acids and retinoids until advised
- Limit heat, strenuous exercise and swimming during the early recovery period if instructed
- Protect treated skin from direct sun exposure
- Contact the clinic for increasing pain, blistering, spreading redness, discharge or unexpected symptoms
Risks and safety questions
Microneedling risks can include infection, pigment changes, prolonged redness, scarring, bruising and unsatisfactory results. The US FDA advises patients to discuss device clearance, provider training, cartridges, cleaning and expected risks; see the FDA microneedling overview.
For PRP/PRF, ask about sterile blood handling, centrifugation, the intended indication and who performs the procedure. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, blood disorders, anticoagulants, active infection, immune conditions, keloid tendency and recent procedures.
Frequently asked questions
Can SkinPen and PRP be combined?
Some clinicians use combined protocols, but combination is not automatically necessary or better. It should have a clear indication and separate explanation of benefits, evidence, risks and cost.
Is Virtue RF better than SkinPen?
It is different, not universally better. RF may add value for selected firmness or deeper texture goals, while SkinPen may be sufficient for other concerns.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no standard number. Concern severity, treatment intensity, healing response and goals influence the plan. Progress should be reviewed rather than promised in advance.
When will I see results?
Early glow or swelling-related changes can differ from collagen remodelling, which develops gradually. Timing varies by treatment and individual biology.
Can all skin tones be treated?
Many patients can be considered, but pigment history and energy settings require careful assessment. Individual consultation is essential.
Start with analysis, not a treatment trend
